Fiber5 Streaming Platforms are a globally distributed Streaming Content Delivery network ( S-CDN ). Therefore, the capacity outperformes single server solutions by far and may not be compared with such small bandwidth solutions.

Fiber5 Streaming Platforms are specifically designed to

  • deploy live streaming events to a broad, virtually unlimited audience
  • provide hightest capacity OnDemand Streaming for Audio & Video in multiple formats

OnDemand streaming

... is the most common application. Video- or audio files are produced, uploaded to a Fiber5 streaming platform and integrated in any website with just a link or directly embedded with a player in the HTML Code. Each Fiber5 streaming platform comes with enough space for most applications or can be easily upgraded.

Live streaming

... is getting more popular with increasing mobile bandwidth availible. A live video source is captured with a special software ( encoder ) and constantly transmitted over the internet to a Fiber5 platform. The Fiber5 platform is acting as a relay with sufficent capacity to allow several thousand simultaneous downloads. The URL of the Fiber5 platform can be linked into any website or directly embedded in the HTML Code. In addition, the stream may also be recorded to the encoders disk or the Fiber5 platform.

Software

To produce either onDemand files or live streams, a special software is required. This software is availible for FREE to all Fiber5 customers for the following operating systems: Windows, MAC and Linux.

In a nutshell, a webserver is designed for download, not progressive streaming. Therefore, streaming servers allow the stream to start playing after just a few seconds of buffering, while webservers keep the user waiting until the whole file is transferred.

There are experimental ways to configure a webserver in such way that it is possible to start progressive HTTP downloads, for example with flash media files. However, even such a webserver is limited to a very few simultaneous connections and cannot serve in a commercial enviroment.

Based on the average streaming file size between 5MB and 300MB, using a standard webserver to deploy streams will result in a considerable waiting time between a few minutes and several hours for every user before the player even starts - which is not practicable in a commercial enviroment.

In addition, streaming servers are using the widely established MMS, RTSP or PNM protocol ( rather than HTTP ), which works much faster and more stable with all players.

All these features and LIVE streaming capabilities are absolutely unknown to webservers of any kind.

Fiber5 Streaming platforms can even more. Since they are not just a server, but a global content distributing network ( CDN ), the performance and redundancy is virtually unlimited. Every incoming file and stream is instantly transmitted to all global relays, resulting in immediate availability for even the broadest audience. Fiber5 Platforms are cross-compatible with all established streaming formats. Files can be uploaded in any format ( whether its a .wmv .mov .flv .swf avi or any other established format ), and it will be ready for streaming without any setup required.

Fiber5 PrePaid vs. monthly contract & flatrate

While beeing technically very similar, Fiber5 platform are availible with and without a monthly contract.

PrePaid platforms are simply the best choice for experimental purposes and temporary events. Paid upfront, these platforms come with the choosen traffic package. They automatically expire when the traffic is used up or after 12 months - whatever comes first. They can be reactivated within a grace period of 21 days before final expiration.

Pro platforms ( monthly ) are specifically designed for permanent deployment of streaming media content. The traffic costs are significantly lower than with the prepaid platforms and they do not expire. While providing unparalleled peak capacities of more than 10.000 simultaneous users to your content, only the actual traffic will be billed at the end of the month.

Flatrate platforms ( monthly ) are availible with different maximum client licences and provide the best price for a predictable number of simultanous users.Their fixed prices without additional traffic charges have made them increasingly popular within the internet radio & tv industry since their invention in 1999.
